The Promises of God

April 2026

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Numbers 23:19

God is perfect. He is Holy. That means He cannot lie or make mistakes. Because of this, He is completely trustworthy. Throughout the Bible, God makes promises to us. Since He is who He is, when we read every promise, we can have complete peace and joy.

God's Promises Are True

God's Promises Are True

 By Rachel F.

Our God is a promise keeper. We can have confidence in him because He has a great track record. The promises He has made and kept extend from the most ordinary among us to the most prominent. Let's review some of them beginning in the Old Testament and moving into the New.

God promised to make a great nation out of Abram (Genesis 12:2). Abram already had a son from his concubine, but God had made it clear that this nation was to come through his wife, Sarah who was advanced in age and childless. God blessed Abraham with a child, Isaac, when he was 100 years old and Sarah was 90.

God called Moses who was working tending his father-in-law's sheep, and sent him back to Egypt where he was raised, to deliver the Children of Israel from bondage. (Exodus 3:5-10). God sent 10 plagues to get Pharaoh to release the Children of Israel. It's the 10th plague that makes an impact. He killed the firstborn son of every family of Egypt. Then Pharaoh agreed to release the children of Israel. To make good their escape God parted the Red Sea, allowing the children of Israel to safely flee from the Egyptians. He then returned the waters to the sea, drowning the Egyptians.

God promised victory over Jericho (Joshua 6). Jericho was a fortified city on a hill. There was no way for the Children of Israel to surprise the inhabitants. God had the priests march around the city with trumpets of rams horns blowing in front of the Ark of the Covenant for six days. On the seventh day, they marched around the city seven times and all the people were to shout, and God said the wall would fall down. Then God delivered the city.

Mary, a virgin is visited by an angel of the Lord. He told her that she had been chosen among women to carry the Messiah (Luke 1:26-38). She didn't understand how this could happen since she'd never known a man, but the angel told her that the Holy Spirit would come up upon her.

She became pregnant and delivered the Holy Child in a manger in Bethlehem.

God promises to make you His child if you will just accept the free gift of His Son. What does that mean? His Son Jesus died on the cross to pay the debt for your sins and mine. If you will accept His payment for your sins and ask Him to be Lord of your life you will be saved. God promises in John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them who believe on His name".

Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

A Promise Fulfilled

I always prayed that God would protect my boys. I also prayed that they would be close…and they are.

I remember a time when we lived in Nebraska while my boys were young, 13 and 7, that they were out walking and quite suddenly a horrible storm developed! My oldest son was doing all he could to get his little brother home safely.

They began to run… FAST!! My oldest son yelled, “We have to run faster!!” He looked back at his little brother and he saw that his feet were no longer touching the ground. They were flying in the air!!

If he hadn’t been holding tightly onto his little brother’s hand, he would have blown away…

BUT GOD had them! They made it home safely that day.

I’ll never forget this true story of how God protected my boys.

“The afflictions of the righteous are many, but the Lord rescues him from them all.” - Psalm 34:19

The Promises of God

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Numbers 23:19

We learned this month that God promises to never leave us or abandon us. He is our rescuer. He's also called our refuge and our strength . David describes God as his Shepherd and as a result, he says he will not be in need.

God does promise to supply all of our needs. Not just now, but in the future. Jesus says He's going to prepare a place for us and that He's going to take us there to be with him.

But in the meantime, Jesus promises us peace. He said we shouldn't let our heart to be troubled or afraid. And there's even more comfort. God promises to have mercy on those who fear Him. He says he's removed our wrongdoings as far as the east is from the west. That's amazing! In Romans 8: 38-39 Paul assures us that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God. Jesus describes us as His sheep. And He says no one is able to snatch us out of His hand or His Father's hand. He further says that He gives us eternal life, and we will never perish.

But what about out daily challenges? God promises that He will not allow us to be tempted above what we were able to handle, but He will with the temptation provide a way of escape. But what if you do mess up? I John 1: 6-9 says, . . . if we confess our sins God will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all righteousness.

Is God listening? He says if you come to Him,  pray to Him, and seek Him With all your heart, you will find Him. How encouraging are these promises?
